Acting agents

Acting agentsIf you are an aspiring actor, you may have already found out that one of the most important things that you can do is to find a good acting agent. Sometimes your talent can only take you so far, the rest of the distance you cover happens (or does not happen) because of your acting agent. Here are some tips on finding a good acting agent:

· Make sure that you ask a potential acting agent how many clients she already represents. You will then have an idea of how large her workload is and an idea of the size of her business. If the acting agency you are looking at has many clients, you will know that you are only a small part of their business.

· Make sure that your acting agent is well connected. A good agent will be very well-connected to the industry. Feel free to ask a potential acting agent how many casting directors he knows personally and also which he works the most with. Also check and see if the acting agent is connected to directors, writers, or producers.

· It is a good idea to check out the other clients that your potential acting agent or acting agency are representing. If the other clients have similar goals and ambitions and are of a similar type, it may be a good acting agency for you,

· Just because you decide that you do not like a certain acting agent, it does not meant that you should treat her poorly. The industry is not as big as it seems, and agents are well connected – word can get around if you were rude to and acting agent. You do not want to spoil your chance with better acting agents.

· Make sure that a potential acting agent knows where you want to go with your career. Talk with the agent about where you want your career to go and where they see it going. Find out what an acting agent expects of you. Also, ask the acting agent for some critical feedback during your meeting. It is good to know how people see you.

Once you have found yourself a good acting agent, you can continue to broaden the horizons of your career. If you find that one acting agent is just not doing it for you, it is ok to go find another agent. It is not like you are married to the very first agent that you find. Just remember to be respectful and kind – maybe your agent will even give you a high recommendation to another acting agent.
