Acting Careers
When
launching your acting career, you will most likely be starting at
square one. Although it is difficult, what you’ll have to
do is pick up the phone and call a casting director yourself. Most
people will simply not take this step, but the chances are good
that you can be effective in this method.
You’ll probably speak with an assistant or associate. Simply
say that you are an actor and believe that the casting director
should meet you.
You will have researched the casting directors projects and therefore
will have something to say on this topic. Say you’ve researched
his projects and know that you are the type of actor he needs.
Most likely you’ll be asked to send in a resume and head
shot. Be sure to get the name of the person you are speaking to.
Write this name down in your list of industry contacts. You’ll
next want to compose a cover letter to the director using the name
of the assistant who directed you to mail in the resume.
Wait about a week before calling to inquire. You want your name
to appear between three to five times. This is the average for getting
your name remembered. With the initial phone call and the mailing
in of the resume, you have just put your name out there twice. The
phone call the following week will make three.
There is a good chance that you will be called in at some point
for an interview. That will make four times that your name has appeared
in that office. Send a thank you note no later than a day from the
interview. By now, your name will be familiar and distinguished
from the dozens of others that end up in the slush pile.
Be patient. You will be successful, but realize that it takes about
five years to establish an acting career!
