Talent management

Talent managementIf you are getting into acting or modeling you should have more than one manager. First of all, a ‘manager’ is not the same thing as an ‘agent’ – an agent is the person who will book assignments, negotiate contracts, and all of that jazz. Someone in talent management will help cultivate your career so that you can develop to the maximum level.

An actor needs more than one manager to help shape the direction that you should go – one will find you a direction that will generate for you the most revenue. A good manager understands the importance of appearance. A good manager knows photographers, art directors, and agents. A manager does not represent an actor directly like an agent does, but a talent manager can help the actor network and get promoted within the industry.

In fact, a manager can help an actor get signed to the best agent available in whatever he is pursuing. A manager works a much broader field than an agent – an agent works in a very specific area. Sometimes, a model or actor who is just starting out will start with a manager until the manager helps him find a good agent.

Talent management are the people who go out and find the talent. Or, of course, sometimes the talent goes and finds them. Then, once the “talent” has begun to get noticed, talent management will help the actor find a good agent.
